The Primal Connection is a democratic partnership of musicians from culturally diverse backgrounds dedicated to excellence in improvisational percussion music, as well as to the ancient joy of making music.

In order to encourage a form of music that is shaped by the creative contributions of individual members, rather than by the vision of any one person, The Primal Connection has no bandleader. Musical arrangement and direction is accomplished democratically. Each member is invited to contribute original songs and arrangements that are given shape and enhanced through group suggestions and instrumentation. Each composition retains sufficient space for the element of acoustic surprise during performance, in keeping with the nature of the Primal Connection sound. Individual members, in turn, are featured in performance taking the lead in their own songs supported by the group.

Consistent with the music they play, the members of the Primal Connection, are themselves a reflection of ethnic diversity, and this diversity constitutes its very heartbeat, resulting in a continuing infusion of new and varied songs and rhythms, new thoughts and new styles that keep the Primal connection in a constant state of evolution. This multi-cultural environment, along with mutual respect and the willingness to share, understand, and appreciate their differences, acts as a catalyst that, in the end, brings about the signature sound that is unique to The Primal Connection.

The music and structure of the Primal Connection deliver a positive social message which holds the promise that all people can come together, physically and spiritually, for a common goal. It is that spirit of brotherhood and faith in the future of humankind that the band members commit to their performing and teaching of ethnic rhythms, as well as to the improvisational cross-cultural musical expressions that grow out of the union of different playing styles.
