- Moving to the next level of service -

The Primal Connection is on the move and making changes to keep pace with its growth. We have added six new board members with wisdom, knowledge and the skills to help guide our organization to its future. For starters we now have the Primal Beat to inform, educate and act as a venue for our members.

There is a growing awareness of and interest in the health, educational and social benefits of hand drumming. The Primal Connection is in the right place at the right time to make a difference. We are a unique and versatile organization dedicated to making the world a better place to live in, one beat at a time.

The Primal Connection is proud to announce the following new members to its Board of Directors:
  • Jim Fitch, former Acquisitions Manager and founder of the SFCC Art Museum,
  • Dorothy Garman, Activities Director, Lake Placid Health Care Center
  • Pricilla Gilbert, Vice President, Sun Trust Banks
  • James F. McCollum P.A., Attorney & Counselor at Law
  • Mike McCoy Ph.d., Executive Director, Hardee County ARC
  • James O. Robertson  D.N.M. Proprietor Natural Health Consultants LLC)
  • Betty Ford Smith, Outreach and Special Programs for the Highlands County School Board

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Denise Miraini for her years of service and creative contributions to the Board of Directors and Donna Lee Hilden for her dedication, positive energy and guidance. The Board will miss you both.

Denise and Donnalee resigned from the Board so that they might spend more time working as educator/facilitators for the organization.

- SWTA Training -

Studies have shown that children that are taught the arts early on are better learners

Five members of the Primal Connection attended a VSA arts of Florida workshop in Tampa to train in the Start With The Arts program.

Start with the Arts is a program developed by VSA to promote literacy in early childhood.  The program is designed for normal as well as disabled children. VSA arts is an international organization that brings the arts to the disabled. The Primal Connection has served as Artist-in-Residence for several of their client institutions that work with the disabled.

MEMBERS FIRST
As a service to our members the Primal Connection is incorporating a Members First program. Things continue to develop as the Primal Connection grows. New programs are instituted, grants are received, our board is still growing, the ensemble is training a new player etc. In general we are breaking new ground with some regularity.

When we have announcements of interest to our members between issues of Primal Beat we will be informing our membership first.
