Students in the Primal Connection Troubled Teen Program were recently asked to write down what the drumming program meant to them. The only instructions were to be honest, positive or negative. All the responses were positive. Following are some excerpts:
  • "Drum class means everything to me...I might have been thinking suicide but instead I get to think of how I get to play better. You might say the drum saved my life or just my mind."  Joseph C.
  • "This drum class is a lot more important to me then you might think...It gives me a feeling of brotherhood and togetherness...You see when you are surrounded by convicted felons a positive activity like this keeps a positive attitude in our heads." Nick N.
  • "It means a lot to me.  It lets me express myself, I never played an instrument before...I am glad to know I can go everywhere and play a drum."  Skye P.
  • "Its pretty awesome.  I like it because it keeps me from getting into trouble on the weekend...We are doing very good as a group." Felix F.
  • "I like this drum class because it lets my mind be in another world.  It takes my mind off stress...I love doing it.  I would like to keep doing it on the outside." Scott C.
  • "I want to say that this drum circle is a very inspiring group.  I want to learn as much as I can so that when I go back home I can join the drum circle down there...I am very thankful that I can do something with my life that's positive."  Travis K.
